The Literacy Bell at McCreary County Public Library

McCreary County, Kentucky has a lot to offer in the month of March!  On a recent visit, I met with community leaders who informed me of the new effort to increase literary levels in the McCreary County area.  The Public Library, with a kind donation from a community family, kicked off the Literacy Bell Project in early March. This project targets Kindergarten and First Grade students by encouraging them to read a book to an adult in their community.  After reading the book to an adult, the young student can sign the book and ring the Literacy Bell located behind the McCreary County Public Library.  Hundreds of students are expected to participate in the program!

Not only is the Library extremely excited to participate in the Literacy Bell Project, but they are also celebrating their 35th Anniversary this month. I am so excited to see the McCreary County Public Library actively involved in the community.  Bringing literacy to the young and old alike is truly a noble mission.  If you are in the McCreary County area and have a free moment, stop by the Public Library and let the fine folks there know you appreciate their work to make our region great.
