The Center for Rural Development and Forward in the Fifth continued a week-long series of live “College and Career Readiness: Planning Forward” webinars yesterday afternoon with presentations on careers in healthcare, social services, and manufacturing.

Host Michael Cornett, director of marketing and public relations for The Center, interviewed Dennis Chaney, public health director of Barren River District Health Deparatment, and Greensburg Mayor George “Lisle” Cheatham about college preparation and career opportunities in their respective careers. Rick Fields of Southern Belle Dairy in Somerset joined later to discuss commercial manufacturing.

The live webinars, broadcast daily from 1:30-2:30 p.m. through Friday from The Center’s in-house video production studio, are accessible to middle and high school students in 120 schools in 32 Kentucky counties. Videotaped segments of the on-line presentations will be made available to additional students within the region and state at the conclusion of the webinars.

The webinar project, funded by a United States Department of Education i3 grant, is presented by Forward in the Fifth, a nonprofit organization and affiliate of The Center; The Center; Kentucky Valley Educational Cooperative; Green River Regional Educational Cooperative; WIN Learning; and Sonic Foundry.

Students within the primary service regions of Kentucky Valley Educational Cooperative and Green River Regional Educational Cooperative in South Central and Southeastern Kentucky may submit questions to the panel via email at mycareer@centertech.com.
