The Center for Rural Development is providing scholarship opportunities for individuals or teams in Bell, Clay, Knox, Magoffin, and Whitley—Appalachian Rural Development Philanthropy Initiative (ARDPI) pilot counties—to attend the 2012 Brushy Fork Institute in Berea to pursue planning around local philanthropy.

Scholarships are available to individuals in these five ARDPI pilot communities who are interested in learning how to build social, human, and economic capital in their local communities and throughout the region.

ARDPI supports the development of permanent, accessible community foundations that will work to secure local assets in order to provide long-term resources for distressed counties in Eastern Kentucky.

Through the Initiative, The Center will award scholarships to individuals or a team working on a local philanthropy effort to attend Brushy Fork’s annual Institute Sept. 11-14 on the campus of Berea College.

The scholarships will cover the full cost of registration for the Institute. Lodging will be the responsibility of each individual or team selected to receive scholarships from The Center.

Each September, Brushy Fork offers an annual Institute, which includes a variety of intensive workshop tracks as well as plenary sessions on regional issues.

Individuals and at least one team member must register to attend the Community Foundation and Community Transformation Track during the Institute to be eligible to receive ARDPI scholarships.

Scholarship applications will be reviewed as received, and applicants will be notified as soon as a decision has made on the funding request. Awards will be made on a first-come, first-served basis.

The Center, a nonprofit organization in Somerset, and Brushy Fork Institute, an outreach program of Berea College, are two of seven Kentucky-based partners working to move ARDPI forward across the region.

Other ARDPI partners include Kentucky Philanthropy Initiative, the Blue Grass Community Foundation, the Foundation for Appalachian Kentucky, the Foundation for the Tri-State Community, and the Endow Kentucky Commission.
