FREE Veterans Day concertOctober 29, 2012
Complimentary tickets are still available for a free Veteran Day concert and recognition service for all military service members presented by the 202nd Army Band of the Kentucky National Guard on Saturday, Nov. 10, at 7:30 p.m. at The Center for Rural Development in Somerset.
Under the direction of Chief Warrant Officer 4 Greg Stepp, the 43-member concert band will perform a selection of patriotic music and will honor veterans from all military service branches in a U.S. Armed Forces military salute.
During the second half of the program, veterans in the audience will be asked to stand when the band plays their respective military branch’s theme song. The names of Kentucky soldiers who have died since the 9/11 terroristic attacks also will be read aloud in recognition of their faithful service.
The 202nd Army Band, part of the Kentucky Army National Guard’s 751st Troop Command, based in Ft. Knox, Ky., has performed concerts throughout the United States and abroad.
Unit musicians from the area include Staff Sergeant Chris Mingo, Stanford; Sergeant Brandon Tagarook and Specialist Michael May, Danville; and Specialist Larry Daniels of London.
The Veterans Day concert will include a Pre-Show Event from 6-7 p.m. in The Center’s Front Lobby featuring a selection of musical numbers performed by three separate 202nd Army Band ensembles.
The Woodwind Quintet, a brass and jazz combo, and a Dixieland group will be stationed in different areas of the lobby to entertain Pre-Show Event guests.
