Lt. Shannon Smith, a pilot and patrol division commander for the Somerset Police Department, emailed The Center an aerial photo of the scene taken from U.S. 27 (at Traffic Light 15) overlooking the grounds of the facility.
The pink ribbon—an international symbol for raising breast cancer awareness—was painted on the front lawn of The Center earlier this week with help from local artist Rhonda Wilford and her husband Doug and filled in by Gulf Coast Services, which donated labor and paint, in preparation for the 10th annual Breast Cancer Symposium.
The event, which recognizes breast cancer survivors and remembers those who have lost their battle with cancer, was held Oct. 18 at The Center. It was presented by Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital and Alton Blakley Family of Dealerships in cooperation with the American Cancer Society, Kentucky Cancer Program, and Southern Kentucky AHEC.
