KentuckyWired I-Way launch in Eastern Kentucky

As a long-time technology leader in the region, The Center for Rural Development is proud to be part of a project that is bringing reliable, high-speed Internet to every county of the state.

The Kentucky Wired I-Way broadband network, which was launched in Eastern Kentucky on Aug. 31, will bring high-speed Internet connectivity to every corner of the Commonwealth.

“The expansion of high-speed broadband is essential for improving the lives of citizens in Southern and Eastern Kentucky and building our region for future generations,” said Lonnie Lawson, president and CEO of The Center. “With KentuckyWired, or the IWay, we will be able to build a high-speed, high-capacity fiber optic network across the entire state.”

Lawson is committee chair of the SOAR (Shaping Our Appalachian Region) Broadband Working Group and a member of the governing board of the newly created Kentucky Communications Network Authority, which will manage the KentuckyWired project.

The broadband project will start in Eastern Kentucky and over the next three years will spread throughout the state. The Center partnered with the Commonwealth to guide the Eastern Kentucky phase.
