The 2016 VSA KY Side-by-Side art exhibit, featuring artwork from nine talented young artists and students at Northern Middle School, is on display at The Center for Rural Development.

“We are excited to showcase the work of these gifted young student artists and their creative talents,” said Dianna Winstead, associate director of arts, culture, and events at The Center. “The VSA KY Side-by-Side program encourages students with disabilities to express their creativity and celebrate their work through visual arts.”

The exhibit is a celebration of the work created by the individual student artists and one-on-one collaboration with mentor Kristy Salley.

The artwork is hung in three pieces: the student’s work, the artist’s work, and the collaborative piece, thus the inspiration for the title, Side by Side.

The student artists are Aiden Vanhooser, Zachary Goodin, Leah Stevens, Nathan Pierce, Dylan Goodin, Tyler Goodin, Olivia Burton, Blade Jackson, and Chanz Miller.

The Side-by-Side exhibit, which will be on display through Oct. 23, is presented locally and statewide by The Center for Rural Development, Lake Cumberland Performing Arts, Northern Middle School, VSA Kentucky, Kentucky Department of Education, Kentucky Arts Council, WHAS Crusade for Children, Kentucky Colonels, and Toyota Motor Manufacturing Kentucky Inc.
