Grand opening of Courtyard by Marriott adjacent to The CenterMarch 7, 2017
The new Courtyard by Marriott, located adjacent to The Center for Rural Development, welcomed the public at a Grand Opening celebration Monday, March 6. The event included a ribbon cutting, hotel tours, refreshments and live music.
The four-story hotel features 104 guest rooms, Bistro restaurant and lounge, indoor pool and fitness center.
Lonnie Lawson, President and CEO of The Center and Glenn Higdon, CEO of LinGate Hospitality in Owensboro, KY, welcomed guests to the new hotel.
“This is something we’ve dreamed about for a long time,” Lawson said before introducing Congressman Harold “Hal” Rogers (KY-05).
Lawson said having a hotel on site of The Center was part of the original inspiration that Rogers had for The Center.
Rogers thanked everyone who helped make having a hotel adjacent to The Center a reality— including Lawson, Higdon, and various community leaders and organizations.
“When we were conceiving The Center for Rural Development, this (hotel) was one of the key factors,” Rogers said. “It’s a great thrill to me that this hotel is owned and developed right here in Kentucky.”
Special thanks to Schafer’s Catering for providing the food and Tim Minton for performing the music during the ceremony.
The hotel was completed and opened its doors to guests on January 24. The Bistro, located in the main lobby, is open to the public for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
