Portraits of the Cross
2292 U.S. 27 Frontage Street
Somerset, KY 42501
First United Methodist Church presents “Portraits of the Cross,” an annual dramatic production that combines music, drama, and narration to tell the story of Jesus Christ’s life, death, and resurrection.
Featuring a community choir, actors, and orchestra, this dramatic portrayal of the life of Christ has the power to touch hearts and change lives through God’s grace and love.
The event is hosted by First United Methodist Church, but involves many people from other churches and throughout the community.
Admission is free. However, tickets are required. For more information or tickets, call 606-678-4042.
The drama is portrayed in picture-box style, with each scene appearing like a window into the past. The audience will catch glimpses of Jesus’ life, as the actors live out some of the special moments that are told in the Gospels.
Many familiar scenes will come alive before your eyes in a special way that brings the words of the Bible to life. Each scene is depicted as accurately as possible by holding them to the standard of the Scripture.
Additionally, each scene is narrated with both spoken word and music to heighten the experience and further explain the drama. Accompanied by an orchestra, the community choir adds musical color and depth to the production. Narrators paraphrase passages from the Gospels and explain the meaning of the portrayed events.
The stage, costumes, and props are all procured or made by volunteers.
