Download a copy of the registration form for the Virginia Murrell Summer Art Camp and return completed form with payment to The Center for Rural Development by July 6.


During Session 2 of the Virginia Murrell Summer Art Camp, children will learn about drums from around the world; theatre games and storytelling; take a musical trip across America; and work with different media (from clay to beads to chain to rope) to make beautiful artwork.

Breakfast will be provided by the Pulaski County Schools Summer Feeding Program and served from 8:30 a.m.-9 a.m. each day of the art camp.

The Virginia Murrell Summer Art Camp is presented by The Center for Rural Development and Lake Cumberland Performing Arts.

Session 2
Wednesday, July 15

Age Group 6-8
9 a.m.-11:30 a.m. – Drums from Around the World (instructor Adam Hopper) Students will get a hands-on interaction with a variety of percussion instruments from around the globe. They will learn the origin of the instruments, brief demonstrations on how to play them, and how they impact their current musical culture.
11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. – Lunch and organized free play/activities
12:30 p.m. -3 p.m. – Theatre Games and Storytelling for kids (instructor Sommer Schoch) Students will build creativity, listening, and teamwork skills through improvisation games and storytelling exercises while gaining the experience of being on center stage.

9 a.m.-11:30 a.m. – Theatre Games and Storytelling for Kids
11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. – Lunch and organized free play/activities
12:30 p.m. -3 p.m. – Drums from Around the World

Thursday, July 16

Age Group 6-8
9 a.m.-11:30 a.m. – Singin’ with Mr. Steve (instructor Steve Albritton) Join Mr. Steve as he travels across America musically. You might say, from Sea to Shining Sea. We will sing songs from Appalachia, hollywood and broadway. Styles will include broadway, jazz, ragtime, spirituals, blues and patriotic.
11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. – Lunch and organized free play/activities
12:30 p.m.-3 p.m. – Be a GEM (instructor Debra Hines) Students will work with different media (from clay to beads to chain to rope) to make beautiful artwork. Each student will learn step by step instructions on how to start with something very simple and make it into jewelry that is unique….. just as a GEM!
