During Session 1 of the Virginia Murrell Summer Art Camp, children will explore the arts through abstract expression oils; create a display of art using paint on fabric, clay, and paper; learn about dance movements as art; and will make crepes in a food demonstration to illustrate how art can be found in a beautifully prepared food presentation.

Breakfast will be provided by the Pulaski County Schools Summer Feeding Program and served from 8:30 a.m.-9 a.m. each day of the art camp.

The Virginia Murrell Summer Art Camp is presented by The Center for Rural Development and Lake Cumberland Performing Arts.

Session 1
Monday, July 13

Age Group 6-8
9 a.m.-11:30 a.m. – Abstract Expression Oils (instructor Melissa Schutz) Students will gain an understanding of the role emotion plays in art making as they create abstract paintings based on feelings. They will create a painting based on one or more of the following: feeling, emotion, idea, expression, color, texture, and line. Emotion may be happy, sad, angry, excited, or alone. When the paintings are complete, students will interpret each other’s work.
11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. – Lunch and organized free play/activities
12:30 p.m.-3 p.m. – Paint-tastic (instructor Debra Hines) Students will work with paint on fabric, clay, and paper to make a paint-tastic display of art. They will learn to be creative and see painting as a different art and material.
