The CenterLane–Lovely Lancaster
April 4, 2011- Downtown Lancaster, Garrard County
When I began the new job as Community Liaison for The Center, I could safely say I had never been to Garrard County, Kentucky. After a month on the job, I quickly realized I have been missing out! I made the short journey to Lancaster and met with Mr. Nathan Mick, Garrard County’s Economic Development Director. He led me on a tour around the lovely city of Lancaster and showed me new economic development opportunities as well as long-standing, successful businesses that have been in Garrard County for decades. And speaking of successful businesses, I somehow found myself in the midst of a small container filled with Mom Blakeman’s pulled candies. That little adventure was sweet, to say the least!
After taking in many of the amazing views in Lancaster, I quickly realized it was lunch time. I had heard many great things about a restaurant called “Wajaba’s Too”, so I decided to give it a try. I truly cannot say enough about the food–it was amazing! I ordered the special of the day which happened to be chicken and dumplings complete with green beans, mashed potatoes and gravy, and cornbread. I ate every single bite and found myself wishing for more.
- Brownie and Ice Cream Sundae from Wajaba’s Too
The country-style cooking was the epitome of “comfort food” and I felt it would only be fitting to top it off with a brownie and ice cream sundae. In case you aren’t yet convinced to stop by Wajaba’s Too, I must tell you that the brownie was warmed to perfection and topped with ice cream, chocolate syrup, and whipped cream.
I was nearly too stuffed to drive home, but I found a way to make it work. All in all, my day in Lancaster was a huge success. If you have never visited this charming city, I would strongly encourage you to take a day trip very soon!
