Top 66 photographs in 2011 Redbud Trails photography contest on display at The Center

In early spring, the purple-pink flowers of the Eastern Redbud trees dot the hillsides and mountains of Southern and Eastern Kentucky.

These beautiful trees with their colorful blossoms are prominently featured in TOUR Southern and Eastern Kentucky’s (TOUR SEKY) “We’re in the Pink” Redbud Trails photography contest.

The top 66 photographs in the contest are part of the latest visual arts exhibit on display at The Center for Rural Development. The exhibit is open to the public and will remain here through July.

“The Redbud Trails Photography contest is a great way to get folks of all ages to participate in Redbud Month,” Jeff Crowe, president and CEO of TOUR SEKY, said. “The Redbud Trails program continues to grow each year, and what better way to promote visitation and community pride than with a Redbud calendar of pictures from local amateur photographers?”

The top three photos will be featured in the 2012 Redbud Trails calendar. The photos that received an honorable mention will be used in 2012 TOUR SEKY marketing.

The photography contest is one of the events held in celebration of Redbud Month in April. U.S. Congressman Harold “Hal” Rogers (KY-05) created the Redbud Trails program as a way to entice visitors to make the trek to Southern and Eastern Kentucky prior to the opening of the traditional tourist season.

If you don’t see your favorite Redbud photograph in the framed collections, it could be in a folder at The Center’s front desk. TOUR SEKY has placed the remaining 57 photographs submitted in the contest in a folder available for public viewing at the main reception’s desk in the front lobby.

The visual arts exhibit may be viewed from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday and during extended weekend hours when the lobby area is open for special events.
