If you have been waiting to purchase individual tickets for any of the five performances planned for this season’s Center Stage series at The Center for Rural Development in Somerset, now is your chance.

Individual tickets for the 2011-2012 Center Stage series shows are now on sale at The Center’s Box Office, located at 2292 South U.S. 27 (Traffic Light 15) in Somerset, and available online. You can also call the Box Office at 606-677-6000 to place ticket orders over the phone.

Season subscription packages also are still available. For the first time this season, buyers can purchase a set of five tickets for all five performances, or choose tickets for any three of the season’s shows, all offered at discounted prices.

“We are excited to be able to offer audiences a spectacular lineup of five exciting Center Stage shows that offer something for everyone—from a Broadway musical comedy to the legendary music of Johnny Cash,” Dianna Winstead, associate director of arts, culture, and events, said. “All of our performances give people in our region a chance to experience the arts and enjoy entertaining shows and live theatre at its best.”

“Civil War Voices,” Saturday, Oct. 15,

This musical tapestry brings the War Between the States to life in text and song. The history of the Civil War has never been presented so creatively as in this production. A fluid compilation of historical text, drawn from diaries, letters and other Civil War-era writings, together with period songs, make this performance a soul-stirring crowd pleaser. This Barter Theatre production is more than a musical … it’s a historical event!

“Mooseltoe: A New Moosical,” Saturday, Dec. 3,

“It’s time to start a fresh Christmas tradition with an enchanting new holiday musical. Mooseltoe, the Moose with a Dream, and his friends come to life in this colorful, magical, and whimsical musical tale as he pursues his seemingly impossible dream. This sparkling new production has 16 unforgettable costumed characters and is filled with original, memorable, and melodic songs.

“Damn Yankees,” Tuesday, March 20

Home runs, hit songs, and a sizzling temptress named Lola have made “Damn Yankees” a musical comedy favorite. This is the story of a 1950s middle-aged baseball fanatic who trades his soul to the devil for a chance to lead his favorite team in the pennant race against the New York Yankees. New Shanghai Circus, Friday, April 20

Direct from China, this troupe delivers feats of circus art that reach literally breathtaking heights of skill. Astonishing athletes defy gravity and execute breathtaking feats as they stretch the limits of human ability in this spellbinding show. Fearless performers with boundless energy bring you more than two thousand years of Chinese circus traditions. If it’s humanly possible—and even if it’s not—Shanghai’s acrobats, jugglers, and contortionists do it with spectacular flair!

All of the Center Stage performances are held in The Center’s theatre and begin at 7:30 p.m. with the exception of “Mooseltoe: A New Musical,” the holiday show, which includes both a 3 p.m. matinee and 7:30 p.m. show.

A pre-show event, sponsored by Clear Channel Lake Cumberland and Sully’s Restaurant, is held from 6-7 p.m. in The Center’s front lobby prior to each Center Stage performance. Early guests can enjoy an optional catered dinner served by Sully’s and free entertainment.

The Kentucky Arts Council, the state arts agency, provides operating support to Lake Cumberland Performing Arts with state tax dollars and federal funding from the National Endowment for the Arts.

These performances also are funded in part by a grant from South Arts in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts and Kentucky Arts Council.
