“Mooseltoe: A New Moosical,” part of the 2011-2012 Center State performing arts series, is presented by Lake Cumberland Performing Arts in partnership with The Center.

“This sparkling new production has 16 unforgettable characters and is filled with original, memorable, and melodic songs,” Dianna Winstead, associate director of arts, culture, and events at The Center, said. “Children and adults alike will embrace and cheer for our lovable hero, Mooseltoe, as he saves the day and brings holiday magic to the audience.”

In this story, Mooseltoe pursues a seemingly impossible dream—learning to fly like a North Pole reindeer. His dad will hear none of it and sends Mooseltoe to his room. But mom encourages Mooseltoe to follow his dream by consulting the Moose King about his flying obsession.

Along the way, he encounters a trio of snobby penguins, rescues a drowning walrus, gets jeered by a Snow Couple, and bullied by a tough Snow Ball!

“Mooseltoe: A New Moosical” includes a cast of larger-than-life characters, nine original songs, and an enchanting set designed exclusively by New York designer Kelly Tighe. Celebrities from Broadway, TV, and the movies provide the voices of Mooseltoe and his friends for this charming story that underscores the power of believing in one’s self and following a dream against all odds.

The evening performance will include a Pre-Show Event from 6-7 p.m. with entertainment and an optional catered dinner served by Sully’s Restaurant in The Center’s front lobby.

During the Pre-Show Event, a reception will be held for Somerset artist Peggy Sherry whose exhibit, “Acquascapes and More,” is on display at The Center through the end of December. The exhibit features 29 original paintings inspired by Sherry’s love for the beauty of the region. Many of the paintings depict some of the region’s most popular attractions, including Cumberland Falls.

The Kentucky Arts Council, the state arts agency, provides operating support to Lake Cumberland Performing Arts with state tax dollars and federal funding from the National Endowment for the Arts.
