Some of the top entertainment on America’s stage will be at The Center for Rural Development in Somerset during the 2012-2013 Center Stage performing arts series.

Lake Cumberland Performing Arts, in partnership with The Center, announces five new shows have been added to an exciting line-up of performances planned for the upcoming season.

The schedule includes the nationally–touring Broadway production of “Titanic: The Musical;” Kentucky Ballet Theatre’s holiday performance of “The Nutcracker Ballet;” the breathtaking acrobatic skills of The Peking Acrobats; Michael Londra’s “Celtic Fire;” and Bluegrass icon Ralph Stanley and the Clinch Mountain Boys.

“We are so excited to be able to offer one of the most diverse schedule of shows this season for the 2012-2013 Center Stage series,” said Dianna Winstead, associate director of Arts, Culture, and Events at The Center. “These shows are huge and provide exposure to different art forms.”

Individual show tickets for this season’s five Center Stage performances are scheduled to go on sale Tuesday, Sept. 11, at The Center’s Box Office at 2292 South U.S. 27 (Traffic Light 15) in Somerset.

Patrons can also purchase an entire season package of all five shows or a three-show package of any three shows in the season’s schedule.

Titanic: The MusicalTitanic: The Musical

On the 100th anniversary of its tragic journey, TITANIC recounts the dreams, hopes and aspirations of those aboard the fateful ship. The story of the launching, the collision with the iceberg, and the sinking is played out against the background of the rigid class-distinctions of the Edwardian Age.

Celebrate the holidays with Kentucky Ballet Theatre’s traditional ballet – The Nutcracker.  This ballet is complete with familiar characters such as young Clara, the charming Nutcracker Prince, the magical Sugar Plum Fairy, and the fierce Mouse King.  Share all the magic of the season with this holiday classic.

Ralph Stanley and BandRalph Stanley and the Clinch Mountain Boys

For over six decades, legendary icon Dr. Ralph Stanley has become one of the most influential artists of all time. He formed the legendary Stanley Brothers duo with his older brother Carter Stanley in the forties.  This patriarch of traditional and bluegrass music still performs and will give you a performance that will be moving and inspirational.

A pre-show event with free entertainment and an optional catered dinner will be held from 6-7 p.m. prior to each 7:30 p.m. Center Stage performance and from 1:30-2:30 p.m. prior to the holiday matinee performance of “The Nutcracker Ballet.”

The Kentucky Arts Council, the state arts agency, provides operating support to Lake Cumberland Performing Arts with state tax dollars and federal funding from the National Endowment for the Arts.
