‘Titanic’ cast member Taylor Coriell

A 2011 University of Kentucky graduate Taylor Coriell is making her Titanic debut in the Bluegrass state as the first show of the Broadway-style musical opens on tour this weekend at The Center for Rural Development in Somerset.

Coriell, a native of Lexington, Ky., will portray Kate Murphy, an Irish immigrant seeking out America for a chance at a better life, and several other characters in “Titantic: The Musical” presented by Lake Cumberland Performing Arts in partnership with The Center.

“Titanic: The Musical” comes to stage Saturday, Sept. 22, beginning at 7:30 p.m., in The Center’s theatre. The production is one of five Center Stage performances planned for the 2012-2013 performing arts season.

“I was so excited (when I found out) that the first show was going to be in Kentucky,” said Coriell, who received a bachelor of music in music performance from the University of Kentucky. “I can’t wait to start here. I told everyone that they won’t see any place like Kentucky.”

Enjoy Pre-Show Event with entertainment and optional catered dinner

Prior to the opening of the Center Stage performance of “Titanic: The Musical,” a Pre-Show Event with entertainment and an optional catered dinner will be held from 6-7 p.m. in The Center’s front lobby.

The Pre-Show Event will include musical performances by vocalists Dr. Pamela Jensen-Stanley and her husband Dallas; a pasta bar served by Chef Mete Sergin; and a visual arts reception for local nature photographer Charline Marrinan.

The Somerset couple, who met while singing in a community choir, will entertain guests with their renditions of Neil Diamond’s classic, “You Don’t Bring Me Flowers;” Crystal Gayle’s duet with Eddie Rabbit, “You and I;” Broadway musical “Annie Get Your Gun’s” spirited number, “Anything You Can Do;” and Nat King Cole’s “Unforgettable.”

There is no charge to come and listen to the music or attend a reception for Charline Marrinan, whose photographs are on display at The Center in a new “Spirit of Nature” exhibit. Marrinan, one of the region’s leading nature photographers, will be here to meet the public and talk about her work.

Pre-show dinner guests are in for a real Italian treat. Chef Mete Sergin will be serving Alfredo with meat or marinara sauces (white and wheat pasta); chicken parmesan; green beans with potatoes; roasted eggplant meatballs; garlic bread; and homemade Oreo cookies with cream cheese filling.

The cost of the dinner is $7 for adults and $3.50 for children 12 and younger.

The Pre-Show Event is sponsored by Chef Mete Sergin and Clear Channel Lake Cumberland.
