Veterans, veteran advocates, and active military spouses are invited to learn more about military educational benefits and training opportunities at a one-hour informational session on Wednesday, Nov. 14, at 10 a.m. at The Center for Rural Development in Somerset.

The Center, in partnership with its e-learning training partner, New Horizons Computer Learning Centers in Lexington, is hosting the event to give veterans and others eligible for educational assistance more information about certified training programs available right here in their home community and region.

“The Center is an approved training site for New Horizons Computer Learning Center, which offers certified training in some of today’s top in-demand professional careers,” said Larry Combs, director of technology and business services. “The informational session will give veterans a chance to explore different training opportunities and plan for the future, possibly in a new career field.”

A representative from New Horizons will be at The Center to discuss certified training programs available for GI Bill candidates, VRAP (Veterans Retraining Assistance Program) candidates, and active military spouses.

Among those programs include network professional, security; Microsoft certified IT professional; Adobe certified graphic design expert; certified Cisco network administrator; and healthcare and paralegal programs.

“We are excited to offer this veteran educational benefits informational session to those in Somerset and surrounding areas,” said Nick Esselman, president of New Horizons Learning Centers in Lexington. “This training will allow veterans to get certified in IT, healthcare, and other areas without having to travel to Lexington or Louisville.”

The Center, located at 2292 South U.S. 27 (at Traffic Light 15) in Somerset, has a training classroom set up for New Horizons on the second floor of the facility, where students can receive instructor-led or Online LIVE classes for advanced technical training through Your Center of Learning business skills and workforce training program.
