 Hi Friends!

I’m McKinzie Loutre, the Events Coordinator here at The Center for Rural Development. Many of you may not be aware, but we offer a full range of wedding consultation services to help couples plan and coordinate every last detail leading up to their special day. In today’s Wedding Wisdom Wednesday, I’ll look at five alternative entertainment ideas that are sure to wow your guests.

Entertainment is definitely at the top of the list when planning a memorable wedding. Though the focus of the celebration is of course, your marriage, it’s important to ensure your guests are enjoying themselves too. Traditionally we think of a night full of dancing with a band, DJ, or solo artist, but you don’t have to limit yourself. There are plenty of additional ways to keep guests entertained throughout the night. This is especially important when perhaps only half of your crowd considers themselves big dancers. Below, you’ll find some of my favorite ideas for adding a little excitement to the traditional wedding reception. They are sure to keep guests up and out of their seats all night long and add a unique, personal touch to the event.

 Mirror photo booth
Traditional photo booths have become a wedding reception staple. Add a little twist to the trend by choosing a magic mirror selfie booth. Guests pose in front of the touch-sensitive mirror using photo booth props with prints available within 30 seconds. Up the fun factor by allowing guests to insert their photo into a wedding day scrapbook. This adds a creative spin to the traditional guest book.

Dueling Pianos
Another fun way to switch up your entertainment is with dueling pianos. If you’ve never heard of it, the dueling piano show is a fun, high-energy performance where two pianists face-off to play and sing a variety of requested songs. The show is all about audience engagement and involves singing-along, dancing, and comedic relief. Most of the dueling piano companies offer DJ and emcee services in one convenient package, which is a plus for planning purposes.

Incorporate Cultural Elements
If you have the opportunity to incorporate any cultural elements, do it! Guests love experiencing these special moments, especially if it’s something they’ve never been exposed to before. Whether it be a special performance, food offerings, or other ceremonial tradition, give your guests something they will never stop talking about.

Caricature Artist
Adding a caricature artist is a unique way to switch up your wedding entertainment. Not only does it give them something fun to watch, it’s a guaranteed way to keep guests smiling all night long. Finished art is a great conversation starter and doubles as a memorable wedding favor.

Photo scavenger hunt
A photo scavenger hunt for your guests to complete throughout the reception is a great icebreaker that will keep them entertained and mingling all night long. From snapping a picture of the newlyweds dancing, to selfies with the DJ, it’ll bring out the competitive side of all your friends and family. You can take things to social media by uploading all the pictures and including your wedding hashtag.
