Workforce training courses


The Center for Rural Development’s Business & Community Training Center provides customized instructor-led training courses to build your leadership and workforce technical skills.

Registration is $149 per class for business classes. Please register at least five days before the start of each class.


Get Going with QuickBooks
April 11
8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
Instructor: Carol Whitson
Cost: $149 per person

During this course, you will use the basic features of QuickBooks to record and track your business transactions. Students will explore the QuickBooks interface and access the QuickBooks centers; set up a company and update the Chart of Accounts; build and manage lists; manage inventory; record a product sale; create invoice for services; and work with bank accounts.


Microsoft Office Excel 2016: Part 1
April 16
8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
Instructor: Carol Whitson
Cost: $149 per person

Excel can help you organize, calculate, analyze, revise, update, and present your data in ways that will help the decision makers in your organization steer you in the right direction. This course aims to provide you with a foundation for Excel knowledge and skills, which you can build upon to eventually become an expert in data manipulation.


Excellence in Supervision

This course will show you how to gain the respect and support of your employees; use coaching skills to help others excel and accomplish goals; deal effectively with changing times and confusing situations; communicate confidently with your employees, peers, and manager; and establish expectations for high performance.


Keep Going with QuickBooks

Keep Going with QuickBooks is for students already familiar with Intuit QuickBooks wanting to advance their skills and improve performance. The topics range from memorizing transactions, customizing forms to sharing files with an accountant.


Microsoft Office Excel 2016: Part 2

You already know how to get Excel to perform simple calculations and how to modify your workbooks and worksheets to make them easier to read, interpret, and present to others. But, Excel is capable of doing so much more.

This course builds off of the foundational and intermediate knowledge presented in the Microsoft® Office Excel® 2016: Part 1 and Part 2 courses to help you get the most of your Excel experience.


Grant Writing 201
May 2

Instructor: Melissa Vermillion
Cost: $149 per person

In Grant Writing 201, you’ll learn some of the most important parts about preparing and submitting a successful federal grant application. Instructor Melissa Vermillion, grant writer for Hazard Community & Technical College, will cover what to look for in a grant solicitation and how to make your application competitive. Participants also will take an in-depth look at an online system, www.grants.gov, focused on improving access to services via the Internet. The website is currently the single access point for over 900 grant programs offered by the 26 federal grant-making agencies.
