Certified Fiber Optic (CFO) Classes

The Center for Rural Development, in partnership with Somerset Community College Workforce Solutions, invites you to continue your education by attending one or more of these Certified Fiber Optics (CFO) training courses, to help you become the most qualified in your field!

  • CFO Technician: Aug. 26-28
  • CFO Specialist / Splicing: Aug. 29-30
  • CFO Specialist / Outside Plant: Sept. 3-4

We have funding assistance available to pay for 80% of each certification you would like to take. You may register for multiple certifications, provided you have not previously taken them.

These courses are designed for anyone interested in becoming a Certified Fiber Optic Technician. Fiber Optic Training combines theory and 85 percent hands-on activities to prepare the student to take the CFOT (Certified Fiber Optic Technician) test that is sanctioned by the FOA (Fiber Optics Association).

Who is eligible?
If you are an unemployed or under-employed individual who lives in one of the following Kentucky counties, you are eligible to apply for Certified Fiber Optics training:

Bell, Clay, Floyd, Harlan, Johnson, Knott, Knox, Laurel, Leslie, Letcher, McCreary, Perry, Pulaski, and Whitley counties 

If approved, The Center for Rural Development will fund 80 percent of the participant’s training cost in partnership with Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC).
