G&W Construction Milestone On KentuckyWired Project

By April 5, 2019No Comments

Darrell Alderman, President/CEO of G&W Construction hit a monumental milestone March 19, 2019 on the KentuckyWired project by installing over 1,000,000 ft of Fiber.  The KentuckyWired project is the largest P3 Telecom project in the United States, placing over 3400 miles of high-speed broadband fiber in every county in Kentucky.  G&W is a subcontractor for the NG-KIH Design Build LLC, the Contractors responsible for building the state-wide network for the Commonwealth of Kentucky.   To honor the occasion, representatives Michael Murray, NG-KIH Design Build Project Manager, Jason Sloan, Rowan Operations Manager, Phillip Brown, Executive Director, Kentucky Communications Network Authority, Lonnie Lawson, President, Center for Rural Development, several staff members of the NG-KIH Design Build team and others joined the G&W staff in Morehead.

“G&W is a local Kentucky company with a long history in eastern Kentucky, having enriched many lives with their numerous services.  They were one of the first subcontractors to join the NG-KIH Design Build team in March 2016 to help build the KentuckyWired project.  Over the course of the last three years, they have also installed 1.8 million ft of Strand, 325,000 ft of Underground Conduit, built 11 Huts, completed over 6,000 moves for Make Ready Construction and have completed work in Rings 1A, 1B, 2, 3 and 5,” Michael Murray said.   “G&W’s dedication and commitment to this project have been greatly appreciated and we wanted to honor their accomplishments.  It is not likely another company will reach this milestone due to the large number of subcontractors working on the project.”

It is important to have an amazing staff to be successful and I am blessed to have found the right people for the jobs at G&W.  None of this would be possible without them,” Darrell Alderman said.  “This milestone was hard fought in the mountainous terrain of eastern Kentucky.  G&W is proud that 96% of its employees are Kentuckians.  The impacts of this project are being seen now by providing local jobs and will be for decades to come as we discover all that is capable from this network.  G&W is honored to be a part of this historic project.”
