Introducing The Traveler’s Table cooking series

Welcome to The Center for Rural Development’s
new international cooking series, “The Traveler’s Table”

You don’t have to book an international trip to enjoy Spanish tapas, experience authentic Mexican street tacos, or try crispy Thai fried spring rolls for the first time.

Now, you can enjoy, and learn to make, the tastes and flavors of international cuisine at “The Traveler’s Table” Cooking Series.

During this cooking series, we’ll take you on a culinary journey to Europe, South America, the Middle East, Asia, and more. We even have a cooking class for our youngest generation of cooks, Little Chefs, for children ages 5-15.

  • International Spanish Cuisine: June 11
Experience traditional Spanish tapas and learn how to make Spanish paella as well as the classic Spanish dessert, fried milk or Leche Frita.
  • Little Chefs Mexican Cuisine: July 9
Children (ages 5-15) will be preparing street tacos (or walking tacos), fruit salsa, and Mexican hot chocolate with churros.
  • International Brazilian Cuisine: Aug. 22
Students will use farm fresh vegetables to make traditional Brazilian dishes, including Bahi-style Moqueca shrimp, Brazilian Feijoada with mango and sweet potatoes, and Brigadieros da Escocia (Brazilian chocolate fudge balls).
  • International Middle Eastern Cuisine: Sept. 10
Popular Middle Eastern dishes on the menu include Moussaka (eggplant casserole), Falafel sandwiches, and Semolina and Flour Helva.
  • International Asian Cuisine: Oct. 1
Take a culinary journey to Thailand as students will be preparing Pad Thai, Por Pia Tod (fried Thai spring rolls), and Khao Niaow Ma Muang (Thai mango sticky rice dessert).
  • Fundamentals of Cooking: The Base of it All: Nov. 5
Students will learn how to make the “5 Mother Sauces” and how these sauces can be used as a base to create delicious dishes. The sauces will include Béchamel sauce, Velouté sauce, tomato sauce, Espagnole sauce, and Hollandaise sauce.

All of our international cooking classes will be held from 6:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m. at The Center for Rural Development. Our cooking classes are fun and interactive. Everyone gets to enjoy the food and take home recipes from each class.

Registration is $25 for adults and $15 for students (ages 8-15). *All Little Chefs (ages 5-15) must be accompanied by a paying adult. Please reserve your seat online or give us a call at 606-677-6000.
