Explore your creative side at our painting classes

Explore your creative side in The Center for Rural Development’s new painting classes

Our next painting class will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 17, from 6:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m. at The Center for Rural Development with award-winning instructor Jeremy Scrimager.

Join us to celebrate the spirit of this holiday season as we bring an iconic little Christmas tree to life! We’ll be working with festive colors and a mix of acrylic and ink to create these folky paintings that remind us that it’s not how you celebrate, but who you celebrate it with that makes this time of year so special.

Registration is $35 per person. Participants must be over 12 years old to participate. Paint and supplies are provided.

Registration will close 48 hours prior to class, with a limit of 30 people per class. If the class is full, please contact The Center at 606-677-6000 to be placed on a waiting list.

Artist Bio:

Jeremy Scrimager was born and raised in Somerset, Kentucky. He is a graduate of Pulaski County High School and Eastern Kentucky University. He is an artist, activist, and philanthropist.

His art style is a mix of traditional Appalachian folk, Jazz inspired funk, Gonzo, and street flavorings. He works in several media and often mixes a variety of each in his paintings.

“I think the best way to get folks comfortable using a paint brush is to not have to make one single solitary line. Just some swooshes, wooshes, whips, dips, dobs, and dabs.”

Scrimager has been featured on KET’s Kentucky Life, has twice been awarded recognition at Gonzofest in Louisville, has pieces in several states and a few other countries, and frequently donates art to local charitable organizations to aid in their fundraising efforts.

Known locally and in the art community as ‘Scrim’, he wants you to come out, experience the act of making art, learn a little something, and just have fun!

The Center is located at 2292 South U.S. 27 (at Traffic Light 15) in Somerset.
