New training opportunities

Online Training Opportunities
The Center for Rural Development is introducing online and on-demand training opportunities for small business owners in Southern and Eastern Kentucky and individuals who want to advance their essential work skills.

Business Classes

Get Going with Intuit QuickBooks: July 10
Our online business training courses, taught by professional instructor Carol Whitson, will help students learn the basics of Intuit QuickBooks. The class will be held from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. and streamed live to students.

All participants will need to have access to a personal computer, the Internet, and Intuit QuickBooks 2018 software. Online workbooks are included.

Registration is $149 per course. Prior to the training, instructions on how to join and participate will be sent to participants.

“Becoming Your Best in the Workplace” online workshops: No-cost training

Our “Becoming Your Best in the Workplace” online training workshops with instructor Stephen A. Taylor will provide essential workforce skills to equip, empower, and encourage people to be their best on the job and in life.

Both online workshops will be held from 1:30 p.m.-3:30 p.m. and streamed live using the latest Zoom technology.

The training is provided at no cost to unemployed and underemployed individuals who live in one of these Kentucky coal-impacted counties: Bell, Clay, Floyd, Harlan, Johnson, Knott, Knox, Laurel, Leslie, Letcher, McCreary, Perry, Pulaski, or Whitley.

Participants will need to register in advance using the online registration links. Zoom session information will be sent to registrants prior to the training.

Microsoft Teams On-Demand training
Now for than ever, it is important for small businesses to find creative, innovative ways to communicate and stay connected.

Our instructor-led training will help your small business get up and running with Microsoft Teams, a collaborative tool that allows employees to meet, chat, call and share files in one location. Teams helps employees to work more efficiently whether they are working in the office or remotely.

To schedule Microsoft Teams training, simply fill out the online training request form.

Registration is $49 per person for one hour of scheduled training.

Front Desk/Help Desk Training On-Demand Training
We are offering training for front desk/help desk and other employees in a modularized training platform using Zoom technology.

Training Modules

  • The Customer Service module will introduce students to aspects of customer service in front desk/help desk settings that can be utilized in any service industry. Topics covered include the importance of customer service, examples of both good and bad customer service, customer service environments, diversity in the workplace, and ADA compliancy.
  • The Professional Communication module will cover active listening, developing questioning skills, business writing, and phone, chat, and email etiquette
  • The Productivity and Time Management module will cover decision-making, problem-solving, project management, time management, goals, autonomous work, teamwork, workflow processes, office procedures, stress management, and coping skills.
  • The Technology & Digital/Information Literacy module will introduce basic computer hardware and software, the basics of living and working in online environments, and will provide students with a basic understanding of information literacy, copyright, and effective search strategies.

Each module is available as a stand-alone training or can be taken together to earn the Front Desk/Help Desk certificate.
