Dayla’s Other Country is the nuanced story of a family displaced by the Syrian Conflict who are remaking themselves after the parents separate. Effervescent teen Dalya goes to Catholic high school and her mother, Rudayna, enrolls in college as both walk the line between their Muslim values and the new world in which they find themselves.

Film Reviews

“Meltzer tells Dalya’s story by elegantly weaving together pieces of her life as a typical American teenager and her deep, ever-present Islamic values.” – Huffington Post

“With Dalya’s Other Country … Meltzer continues her explorations of Syria by providing an intimate portrait of its diaspora. Through the unfiltered honesty of Dalya and her mother, Rudayna, the film reveals how family can become a home away from home.”  – L.A. Weekly
