Grant Writing 101

If you are a beginning grant writer, this course will provide you with the essential tools needed to write a successful grant proposal from start to finish. For those more experienced, this workshop will sharpen your skills and keep you up-to-date through discussions of current grant writing trends.

Learn about the grantsmanship process – from foundation research and cultivation to the development and writing of a winning proposal. You will learn about the typical questions funders ask when considering a proposal and the criteria used. Tips for ensuring grant compliance and improving your chances of future grant success will be discussed.

Cost: $149 (Please register at least five days before the start of class.)

Meet the Instructor

Melissa Vermillion has been a grant writer for Hazard Community and Technical College for six years. She has successfully written grant applications to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, National Endowment for the Arts, Appalachian Regional Commission, U.S. Department of Health Services, Department of Education TRIO programs, and several private funders.

Prior to joining the college, she was the director for Aging Programs in Perry County ,where she was also successful in a variety of grant opportunities.

Vermillion has a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Morehead State University and is currently pursuing her MBA.

She has been married to Kevin Vermillion for 27 years and they have two children: Rebekah and Alex.
