If you are a beginning grant writer, Grant Writing 101 will provide you with the essential tools needed to write a successful grant proposal from start to finish.
For those more experienced, Grant Writing 101 will sharpen your skills and keep you up-to-date through discussions of current grant writing trends.
Learn about the grantsmanship process – from foundation research and cultivation to the development and writing of a winning proposal. You will learn about the typical questions funders ask when considering a proposal and the criteria used. Tips for ensuring grant compliance and improving your chances of future grant success will be discussed.

Meet the Instructor
Melissa Vermillion has been a grant writer for Hazard Community and Technical College since 2010. Currently, she is director of grants and contracts. Vermillion has successful written grant applications to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, National Endowment of the Arts, Appalachian Regional Commission, U. S. Department of Health and Human Services (HRSA), the Department of Education TRIO Programs, and several private funders. Prior to joining the college, she was the director for Aging Programs in Perry County where she was also successful in a variety grant opportunities. Melissa has a bachelor’s degree in business administration and master’s degree in business administration from Morehead State University. She has been married to Kevin Vermillion for 30 years, and they have two adult children, Rebekah and Alex.
