ARC Coal Impacted Skills Training

To train new employees or upgrade the skills of current employees to address current workforce needs.

The program seeks to increase skills to be more employable in the local job market or to increase skills as a means to retain current employment.

Counties to be served:

The following ARC distressed, coal-impacted counties and the cities within will be eligible to apply:  Bath, Bell, Breathitt, Carter, Casey, Clay, Clinton, Cumberland, Elliott, Estill, Floyd, Harlan, Jackson, Johnson, Knott, Knox, Lawrence, Lee, Leslie, Letcher, Lincoln, McCreary, Magoffin, Martin, Menifee, Metcalfe, Monroe, Morgan, Owsley, Perry, Rockcastle, Russell, Wayne, Whitley, and Wolfe

Who is eligible:

The program will accept applications from businesses/organizations and individuals from the coal-impacted counties as a means to increase their skills to be more employable in the local job market or give them skills to help them retain their current job.

Purpose:         

This program will assist businesses within Kentucky’s ARC distressed, coal-impacted communities to train new employees or upgrade the skills of current employees to address specific workforce needs

Eligible organizations from these coal impacted counties may apply for a training grant, up to a maximum of $20,000, to train their employees or potential employees in qualified areas.  Eligible businesses will include:  corporations (including non-profits), LLC’s, partnerships, sole proprietorships and private education institutions. Grants will be awarded on a competitive basis through an application process.  Applications will be accepted at any time until funds are fully utilized.  Applications will be reviewed and awarded on a monthly basis.  The Center will offer at least one soft-skills workshop at no-cost to eligible participants during this funding cycle.

Businesses or individuals applying for training grants must provide at least 20% match. Funding will not be approved for more than 80% of the total training cost.
