Community Oriented Access to Learning (COAL)

The Center’s COAL Program will assist unemployed and under-employed individuals from select coal-impacted communities to obtain training and education that will support them in finding gainful employment within our region in specific areas of study. Additionally, this program will benefit employers within our region by developing a more skilled workforce to meet growing workforce demands in our region.

 Counties to be served:

Through this program, The Center will serve 14 counties that have suffered direct and indirect impacts due to the decline of coal. The counties that will be served are: Bell, Clay, Floyd, Harlan, Johnson, Knott, Knox, Laurel, Leslie, Letcher, McCreary, Perry, Pulaski and Whitley.

Who is eligible?

The COAL program seeks to train individuals from the above coal-impacted counties who are unemployed or underemployed and are interested obtaining training or education in the areas of Allied Health, Information Technology, Broadband related fields and Soft Skills.

Purpose:

The goal of The Center’s COAL Program is to build a demand-driven workforce in the coal impacted counties that will be served by this program. By providing training and education in the areas of Allied Health, Information Technology, Broadband related fields and Soft Skills, we plan to bring these distressed, coal impacted counties to the next level and impact the growing economic, workforce and leadership needs of our region.
