Letcher County was awarded $10,000 to develop and implement a portion of their strategic plan.

Letcher County – $6,600 (Plan Implementation Project)

2010 Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) mini-grants
Letcher County Convention and Tourism Commission – $8,800 (to implement a website, develop a tourism video to be used on the website, and plan for the next steps of implementation)
Letcher County Convention and Tourism Commission – $10,000 (to develop a project that includes the collection, planning, and digitization for mobile marketing-based tourism)

2011 Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) mini-grant
Letcher County Tourism and Convention Commission – $10,000 (to establish an overall branding to distinguish Whitesburg from surrounding towns and attempt to further tourism and increase tourism-based revenue)

2012 Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) mini-grant
Letcher County Tourism and Convention Commission – $10,000 (to develop an architectural rendering of a cultural center with rotating exhibit space)

City of Jenkins – $10,000 (to develop a strategic plan for the City of Jenkins that will address the economic and social fabric of Jenkins)

2013 Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) mini-grant
City of Jenkins – $9,000 (Implementation Project) The city will use the grant funding to hire a consultant to assist with the design of a lakewalk around Elkhorn Lake and to incorporate key features of the proposed recreation center and its proximity to Gateway Trail.

2011 Forward in the Fifth Local Educational Affiliate Program (LEAP)
$1,500 grant – Jenkins Independent Board of Education (“College and Career Ready” program). The local board of education, in partnership with the University of Pikeville, will provide a dual-credit program whereas high school students can take college-level courses and earn both high school and college credit for the courses.
